Fashion Maverick Robert Wun: From Hong Kong to Haute Couture

A Stylist's Rise: From Burna Boy's Iconic Outfit to Paris Haute Couture while dismantling Racism in Fashion. Robert Wun's Mission of Empowerment.

Robert Wun is a Hong Kong-born stylist based in London. He launched his label in 2014 and is the man behind Burna Boy’s iconic orange outfit in his recent London performance. He has also styled celebrities like Tems, Burna Boy, Beyonce, Celine Dion, Solange, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, Cardi B, Florence Pugh, Lizzo, and Blackpink’s Lisa for their music videos.

Last year, Robert Wun was unanimously approved to close Paris Haute Couture Week 2023 by the CEOs of luxury brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy. He then received an invitation to showcase his talent at Paris Haute Couture 2023 and had three months to create a collection.

The "Fear" collection is inspired by fashion mishaps, including broken heels and spilled wine stains, and features designs based on horror stories. Wun finds inspiration in everyday life, creating sculpted, geometric looks that blur the line between reality and escapism.

His designs also center on femininity and female empowerment. Robert Wun’s “woman” is a “crazy b*tch living in another dimension who’s powerful, controversial, and owns every room,” the designer told Vogue.

As a Hong Kong native raised in London, Wun embraces his heritage and knows the challenges of being a person of color in fashion. He aims to dismantle systemic racism in fashion, including racial stereotypes and colorism. He believes that diverse individuals should be given real power in key positions rather than being used as a token of diversity. This way, they can be celebrated genuinely rather than simply ticking a box.
